Been there, loved it — our own hearts on the map.

Macaao is what happens when a Belgian couple who ran Zoutestrand in Knokke-Le Zoute decide Marbella needs a proper beach chiringuito. Michel and Christine Dhondt still greet people at the door themselves.

The menu runs moules frites and tomate-crevette alongside whatever came off the boats that morning, and somehow both feel like they belong here. Bare feet, sand between the tables, the sea a few metres away.

It closes for the winter, as it should. Book ahead in summer.
